The picture below shows a game against Waverley Wombats, Gary being tackled by two defenders, whilst Jeff Wheeler looms up in support.
The photograph below shows Max McKinnon (his brother Don was also a police officer and well known, Norths, Manly, NSW and Australian prop), passing the ball to Gary Bourke.
The photograph below shows Redfern lock Gary Bourke being 'sandwiched', by Hurstville Police Ted Shepherd (Holding) and John Gibson (missing with a punch). Ironically Gary, Ted and John, played together at Guildford on the weekends. Police football was and still is not the place for the faint hearted. Team-mates one day, enemies the next!!
'Bourkey' makes another run for Redfern, not sure who his opposition is throwing a dummy to, or if he realises he hasn't got the ball! Julius 'Jules' Marlow can be seen just to the right.
