NSWPRL coach Craig Sheridan pulled off another great victory at CBUS Stadium Gold Coast QLD, defeating their arch rivals QLD PRL in a ‘game for the ages’ when they came from behind to defeat QLD by 26 points to 22.

NSW commenced the game dominantly and scored first before bombing a couple of tries. QLD who had a glut of possession skipped away leading by 10 points at the break.

Sheridan had selected tough NSW Country North second rower Sam Press on the wing to add some extra fire-power and made positional changes putting lightning back Keanu Wighton from fullback to five-eight and experienced and classy centre Haydn Peacock to fullback.

Led up front by tough props Josh Calcagon, Deahn Wanstall and Rhys Schreuder, the “boys” laid the platform for the speedy backs to provided a great spectacle for those lucky enough to be at the game.

Sheridan’s positional changes proved to be a master stroke when Press became the modern day John Ribot de Brasec, an Australian and QLD representative in the NRL in the early 1980’s, who was moved from lock to wing and became the leading try scorer in that position in 1981. The positional change of John Ribot was made by Western Suburbs legend coach Roy Masters.

Press won the players player award against the QLD Police and has also been selected in the Australian Police side, also on the wing.

It was a fantastic performance by the blues who backed up the following day to defeat the Affiliated States Police team by 62 points to nil.
