City V Country 2016

The 2016 NSWPRL City verses Country clash was held in the historic and strong Rugby League town of BATHURST on 28 April 2016.

Captains Mitch WEST (City) and Ben WRIGLEY (Country) had their respective teams primed for the annual showdown. All players were proud to wear their respective City and Country collars, and were looking for big games and possible selection in the touring NSW team.

City start like a bomb with two early tries to captain Mitch West and slick half back Sam O’Brien. City scored three more tries with Andy Hiam, Alex Sahyoun and Ben Fuller crossing over before half time to lead 28 points to country’s nil.
Alex Sahyoun scored another try just after halftime, before country centre John Jackson scored a four pointer which was converted by Tony Leadbitter.
City centre Hayden Bombaci was next to score and city lead 36-6. Country Hooker Luke Jay managed to get over the try line, however city scored two more tries by Mitch West and Josh Murphy. Country hooker Simon Cass scored a conselation try near fulltime which was converted by Matt Chappel. Full time 48 – 16. City Half back Sam O'Brien was named man of the match and was presented this award by Australian and Canberra legend Ricky Stuart.

The NSW team to participate in the Tri-series in Melbourne between 26-28 June 2016 was selected from the City Country game.
