Police Teams, NSW Players, Teams, 1930

The larger photo was taken in July 1930.  It was taken prior to the police V fire brigade match.  My father is in the front row—2nd from left—and the same Wal Maisey is in the back row, 2nd from left.  Dad told me that Ron Waldron who later became Commissioner, is in the photo.  I am not sure, but I seem to think that he is in the back row, 3rd from the left.  Maybe you have access to some old photos of Commissioners past which will help you identify him.

The jumper was blue with a white V.  Pity I did not have Dad write the names on the back of the photo while he was still with us.  Hope these photos are of some use.

INFORMATION SUPPLIED BY RON WEBER

My father told me, when I was a young boy, that the police played rugby union in a mid-week competition with other public service branches.  My father, Ben Weber, played rugby league on the weekends with Balmain.

The small photo was taken at Bombala in 1929, which is the year after Dad joined the force.  He is 4th from the left in the back row.  On his left is Wal Maisey (not sure about the spelling).  I can just remember Wal coming to our house in Drummoyne and I seem to remember Dad telling me that Wal rode motor bikes.
