The NSW Police Rugby League State representative 2011 team commenced their representative campaign against a spirited
NSW Fire Brigade Representative team at Leichhardt oval. Both teams showed passion and pride representing their respective
emergency services teams, and displayed exciting attacking football for the Police, Fire-Brigade and other supporters who
turned up to watch. Under the coaching of well respected Superintendent Craig Sheridan and his assistant,
ex-Canterbury-Bankstown player Mitch Newton, the NSW Police side were dominant around in attack. Slick halves
Jai Jones and Clayton Parkins provided excellent service to their fast backs. Marc Smith the barnstorming NSW Police
center, hit the ball with gusto and went over for three classy tries. Brenton Cochran at fullback was a slippery customer
for his opposition and also crossed for three tries. Up front, the forwards laid a platform for the slick backs with Ryan Briggs
, David Cox, Nick Hyde and Aaron Weatherley running strongly to get the momentum for the backs to capitalise. Ex-NRL
Tigers hooker Robbie Mears proved a threat to the Fire Brigade around the rucks and set up the plays brilliantly. To their
credit the NSW Fire Brigade side played a spirited second half scoring two classy tries. It was a credit to both sides in terms
of the commitment and passion they both displayed. The overall score was NSW Police 50 NSW Fire-Brigade 18.NSW
50...Mark Smith 3 tries, Brenton Cochran 3 tries, Nick Hyde 1 try, Michael Fortier 1 try and Beaudie Cullen (Capt) 1 try.
NSW Fire Brigade 18.
